UNDP-GEF Kura II: Advancing IWRM Across the Kura River Basin

Webinar on Support to Industries to Reduce Water Pollution in the Kura River.

22 Sep 2020

At 10:30, 25 September, a 2 hour virtual webinar will be held, in coordination with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, to present the results of a detailed environmental assessment and cost benefit analysis to serve as a pre-feasibility study for one of the industrial facilities most eager to improve their environmental performance. Invited participants include financing agencies, and representatives of additional industrial facilities interested in building synergies for public-private partnerships for environment improvements.

Protecting water resources from pollution is one of the main pillars of efficient water management and especially important during times of drought. The UNDP-GEF Kura River Project has assessed the main polluting sectors in the Kura Basin in Azerbaijan, and identified two key industries in this sector – slaughterhouses and tanneries.  National and international experts developed a detailed environmental assessment for these two sectors, and produced guidelines for pollution abatement plans for these two industries.

The project also made a detailed environmental assessment and cost benefit analysis to serve as a pre-feasibility study for one of the industrial facilities most eager to improve their environmental performance.

At 10:30, 25 September, a 2 hour virtual webinar will be held, in coordination with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, to present the results of these studies. Invited participants include financing agencies, and representatives of additional industrial facilities interested in building synergies for public-private partnerships for environment improvements.

This workshop will be an opportunity for facilities to learn how to improve their environmental performance and comply with national environmental laws and regulations. It is also an opportunity for financing agencies to identify partners interested in the future sustainable development of Azerbaijan.
