UNDP-GEF Kura II: Advancing IWRM Across the Kura River Basin

Meeting held between Kura II team and Georgia’s Environment and Natural Resources Ministry Focal Point

The UNDP / GEF Kura II project team met with Georgian focal point Marina Makarova, the Head of Water Resource Division at Georgia’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resource Protection, on June 6, 2017 in Tbilisi, to discuss the ongoing and future issues, related to advancing Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) across the Kura river basin through implementation of the transboundary agreed actions and national plans. 

The participants of the meeting discussed a variety of questions, such as plans for developing a simplified version of the Environmental Flow Methodology prepared within the framework of USAID Governance for Growth (G4G) and the upcoming related meeting in July 2017, issues related to coordination with EUWI+ and UNIDO Green Growth initiative, the planned PAG (Project Advisory Group) meeting in July, the PPP (Public Private Partnership) nominations, e.g. GWP and Georgian Amelioration, the plans concerning river restoration activities, the terms of references for international experts on RBM (River Basin Management) implementation and Capacity Building and Information Systems and DSS (Decision Support Systems), needs for national and junior experts and other issues.

The meeting was joined by Zurab Jincharadze, South Caucasus regional coordinator of EUWI+, for a brief discussion of the coordination between the projects.
