UNDP-GEF Kura II: Advancing IWRM Across the Kura River Basin

Grand opening event of the Kura II PCU office and IWRM Training Center

The Integrated Water Resources Management Training Center is established within the UNDP – GEF Kura II project with the aim to provide additional effect and ensure sustainability of the project through capacity building and development of human resources for water management in the region.

Official opening of the Kura II PCU office and IWRM training center on April 7, 2017 in Baku followed right after the Inception Workshop within the UNDP - GEF Kura II Project conducted on April 6 – 7, 2017 at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan. 

The Kura II project will be implementing the Strategic Action Program for the Kura River Basin in partnership with the Governments of Georgia and Azerbaijan, correspondingly with Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection and Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

Representatives of stakeholders from both of the countries took part in the opening ceremony of the newly established Kura II PCU office and IWRM Training Center in Baku together with representatives from the UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub. The attendees of opening ceremony of the Training Center are full of expectations from the center in a way of contributing to development and capacity building of water resources specialists and managers in the region. The center is going to play an important role as a resource and knowledge transfer center in the field of water resources management.
